Welcome to the High-Energy Theory (HEP-TH) Group
in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of The University of Sheffield!
The HEP-TH Group is at the forefront of research in modern high-energy theoretical physics, focusing on topics such as: string theory, M/F-theory, (supersymmetric and superconformal) quantum field theories and their dualities, topological strings, (homological) mirror symmetry, string(y algebraic, differential, enumerative, and arithmetic) geometry, generalized symmetries, AdS/CFT, supersymmetric black hole microstate counting, integrable systems.
See a more complete list of topics and open projects in the Research page.
We maintain close ties with both the Algebraic Geometry & Mathematical Physics and the Gravitation & Cosmology research groups at Sheffield (some of our members being also members of one or both of these), as well as other groups in the Applied Mathematics & Theoretical Physics and Pure Mathematics Research Clusters of the University.
To work with us, interested candidates should refer to the Open Positions page here and the Inspire/Jobs, AcademicJobsOnline, and MathJobs ads. We are part of the European Joint Postdoc Applications system hosted by KU Leuven (NB: this link might change for the upcoming 2025 application round).
We are also part of the STFC-funded Fundamental Physics UK virtual center (fpuk for short), which organizes and hosts remote and in-person events (e.g., the FPUK Edinburgh Festival 2025); and of the COST Action (CA22113) Fundamental Challenges in Theoretical Physics, which funds short visits to and by Action members.
We are currently funded by a EPSRC Fellowship Grant awarded to Andrea Brini, a Royal Society International Exchanges Grant and London Mathematical Society support grants awarded to Marco Fazzi, and a Leverhulme Trust International Professorship awarded to Albrecht Klemm.
